I’ve seen this particular television commercial three or four times and each time I see it I always promise myself that I will make a note of the language they used at the beginning so I could pass it along here.
It begins with an actor saying something like this “If your TV is not connected to an HD receiver from Comcast, your spiffy new HDTV isn’t [really HDTV].”
In my opinion, this commercial is worded the way it is with the intent of making viewers think that Comcast is the only option available for HD programming.
Sure, you may say that I’m being ridiculous and that everyone knows there are more options for HD programming than just Comcast. Well, if you are an HD geek like me, yes you would know that. However, HD is still relatively new and a lot of people still don’t know much about it and I suspect that is why Comcast has worded the commercial that way.
I’ll go a step further and go as far as saying that the opening line of that commercial is a lie, because it really is. There are, in fact, a few other ways to get HD programming on your HDTV.
You could sign up for Dish Network or Direct TV and receive HD programming that way, as long as you are able to install a satellite dish that will be able to receive the signal.
Another way would be to simply receive HD programming the old fashioned way. With a TV antenna which can pick up the HD signal from your local TV stations. My Dish Network receiver has a built-in HD tuner which lets me watch HD programming from the TV stations in the Boston area and it produces a very beautiful quality HD picture, I might add.
I suppose there actually may be some people out there who really do have Comcast as their only HD programming option because they do not live in an area where they can install a satellite dish and live to far away from a television station to receive a good signal.
I do suspect, however, that we are talking about a pretty small number of folks. And for them, I feel sorry that they have only an outfit like Comcast to do business with. I feel their pain.
