Cable Companies Still Up To Their Old Tricks

As much as I dislike the situation, I am still a cable TV subscriber. But wait! It’s not what you might think!

I don’t get a single channel of cable TV programming on any television in my house, but I do need high-speed Internet and right now, the cable TV company is the only one offering it in my area. Period.

That means I am stuck with cable TV’s frequent price increases just like I was a number of years ago before I had Dish Network for all my television viewing.

Although we are now with Comcast, up until a couple of months ago we were with Adelphia. You may have heard that name in the news when the company’s top executives got into trouble by stealing money from the company for their own personal use.

Adelphia went bankrupt and it’s operations around the country are being taken over by other cable companies.

I will admit that the transition from Adelphia to Comcast was not too painful for us. We only experienced a few hours of downtime which is not too bad considering the magnitude of the changes.

What I am not so happy about is the little surprise that arrived in my most recent bill from Comcast!

In typical cable TV company fashion, they are raising their prices. What a surprise! I feel like it’s 1995 all over again and I’m back to dealing with cable company greed once more.

As you can see from the material (click to view each page) they enclosed in my bill, prices are going up quite significantly. Up until now, I was paying $48.96 per month for high-speed Internet.

According to this new information, looks like my bill will be going up to $57.95 per month. It will actually be more than that when one factors in the “taxes and fees” that are imposed on us by the Feds for the “luxury” of having a high-speed Internet connection. So, my bill will probably be going from $48.86 to around $61 a month. That’s quite an increase if you ask me.

If you are interested in seeing how many times Dish Network has raised their prices over the last eight years or so, check out this post.

Since there was one other Dish Network price increase since I entered that post, you can see that my Dish Network bill has gone up about $6 in the last eight years. Not bad considering that Comcast is jacking my bill up over $10 with a nice price hike about two months after I became their customer.

I guess it’s just their way of saying “Welcome to Comcast!”

Well, guess what? As soon as a competitive alternative for high-speed Internet becomes available in my area, I will be canceling my Comcast service and be quite happy to have nothing more to do with cable TV companies whatsoever.

Yes, Charter was the cable TV company that provided service to my old house. I was never satisfied with their service due to issues with picture quality that was never as good as they claimed it was.

I wasn’t too crazy about the frequent price increases either, but I think that’s pretty common in the cable industry.
