As one might imagine, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at any big pay-TV provider. For all of them, one of the most important aspects of the business is working with content providers. It’s easy to think that it’s all just “magic” when you sit down and turn on your television on and have access to all those channels, but it’s a lot more complex than that!

Content providers like the big TV networks must make money as well. They do this in part through agreements with broadcasters like DISH Network, DirecTV and cable TV companies. Once both the content provider and the broadcaster reaches an agreement, the broadcaster is then able to make programming from that content provider available to their subscribers.

DISH Network boss Charlie Ergen is known as a pretty tough negotiator. This can be a good thing for customers since subscribers benefit from lower prices if DISH Network is able to keep their costs as low as possible. There is also the risk that DISH Network may end up losing channels that subscribers want if the company is not able to reach a deal with a particular content provider.

This time around the news is good for fans of The Weather Channel. It seemed like DISH Network was on the verge of removing the channel from their lineup, but it seems that 11th-hour negotiations have resulted in a deal that will allow DISH to continue offering the channel.

Personally, I watch The Weather Channel only when some big weather event is unfolding. Other than that, I really don’t watch it much. I do know some people who consider themselves “weather nuts,” show just love watching it. To each his own, I suppose. I’m just thankful that we have so much varied programming to choose from these days. It’s a far cry from the old days when all we had was our local channels. Four or five channels sounds like a barren wasteland compared to what we have available today.

DISH Network has formed a new partnership with NeuLion, Inc. a company that offers IPTV service that features live and on-demand international sports and other programming that is access via high-speed internet.

The new agreement will allow NeuLion to distribute some DISH Network international channels over their IPTV service. More and more people are getting TV entertainment on the internet these days and companies and networks are moving to satisfy the demand.

DISH Network offers the most international programming in the business with more than 180 international channels in more than 28 different languages.

Although “satellite TV on your PC” has been a common theme used by scammers selling various lists of web sites that carry TV programming, this partnership looks to make “satellite TV on your PC” a reality – at least some of the programming anyway.

The lines appear to be blurring more and more between television entertainment and the internet. With TV networks making some of their most popular programs available to watch online and new developments like the one between DISH and NeuLion, it appears that we can expect to see more partnerships like this in the future.

Personally, I’m most happy in my recliner in front of my 51-inch HDTV when I want to watch some television, but I have actually caught some of my favorite programs online after missing them on my DVR due to some error on my part, and it’s really quite handy in those circumstances.

Sinclair Broadcasting Group has extended it agreement with DISH Network, which allows DISH to continue carrying programming from Sinclair stations on their network, including certain video-on-demand content.

Sinclair owns and operates numerous television stations in thirty-five markets and includes stations that are affiliated with major broadcast networks such as ABC, CBS, CW, FOX and MNT.

DISH will compensate Sinclair under the terms of the agreement, although no specific dollar amount was disclosed.

This is good news for DISH Network subscribers who receive their local-area television channels through DISH from Sinclair-owned stations.
