It’s no secret that video entertainment has been moving from the television to the computer. As the father of two sons who grew up in the age of the internet, I know. Both of my sons get the vast majority of their video entertainment on the internet, with most of their attention focused on television series that can been seen on sites such as Hulu.com.

As someone who grew up getting his video entertainment from the good old “boob tube,” I’m not as enthusiastic about watching video on my PC as my kids are. It’s hard to break away from my comfortable old recliner, my remote control and my 51-inch TV. For some of us who might be considered “old school,” the place for TV-watching is the living room.

I will admit to catching a few TV series episodes and movies online and the experience was actually pretty good, although I still must say I prefer my “legacy” set-up.

DISH Network is certainly not ignorant about the whole internet video thing and are moving to stake their claim in that area. DISH recently emerged as the winner of the auction of the bankrupt Blockbuster and has fueled a lot of speculation about the company’s plans for Blockbuster.

It’s obvious that competition has been heating up recently in the pay-TV space for on-demand and pay-per-view programming content. DISH Network competitor DirecTV has recently been running television commercials boasting that they are offering somewhere around 6,000 on-demand titles for subscribers to access at no extra cost.

A recent deal inked between DISH Network and EPIX will allow Platinum subscribers to access over 3,000 films and other EPIX programming via DISH Network’s DishOnline service.

Dave Shull, senior VP of programming for DISH, said that the company is committed to offering the best video content available, which can be watched anywhere. Shull went on to explain that the new partnership with EPIX "Is why our partnership with EPIX is an important step in the expansion of the already robust lineup of popular movies available online and on on-demand at DishOnline.com”

As a DISH Network subscriber myself, I look forward to more online and on-demand programming content becoming available. There’s little doubt that they will be taking necessary steps to stay competitive with other broadcasters like DirecTV and the cable companies.

EPIX, a joint venture between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures unit, and Lionsgate offers up a vast library of over 15,000 films from the the three film makers and their partners.

A new addition to DishLATINO packages is aimed at viewers who enjoy programming from Central America. Centroamerica TV features programming that includes original programming as well as top-rated soccer games from Central America.

A special feature of this new addition is the airing of Centroamerica TV’s La Liga (Spanish soccer league) game of the week, which airs every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Centroamerica TV is available in the U.S. only via satellite and can be found on DISH Network Ch. 832. The new channel comes at no extra charge to subscribers of DishLATINO Clasico and above programming packages. The channel will provide Central Americans living in the United States with a solid connection to their home countries using informative and entertaining programming that includes "Viva la Manana" from Guatemala, "Hola El Salvador," "Noticias 12" from Nicaragua and "Telenoticias" from Costa Rica.

The channel will also air live soccer games each week and sports highlights programs like "El Pizarron Deportivo" from El Salvador, "Resumen Deportivo" from Costa Rica and "Gol a Gol," a thorough recap of the week’s highlights from La Liga.

"DISH Network is the leader in Spanish-language programming because we continue to bring new and exciting programming like Centroamerica TV to the wide variety of Latino communities in the U.S.," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. "We are very pleased that the millions of Central Americans who live in the U.S. now have access to Centroamerica TV at a value unmatched by any other pay-TV provider in the country."

"We continue with our commitment to serve the Central American community in the U.S., and we are thrilled Centroamerica TV is now available through DISH Network’s DishLATINO suite of packages," said Antonio Briceno, general manager for Centroamerica TV and vice president of Distribution and Channels for Imagina U.S. "This reaffirms our standing as the leading channel for Central Americans living in this country."
